Women’s programmes

August 4, 2013 By nhlwv

sad woman who has been abusedOur Women’s programmes assist:

  • Women who are in (and have been in) an abusive or violent relationship
  • Women who are struggling with issues of anger or violence themselves.

We often meet with women who are in both categories above. In these cases we may combine both programmes or suggest that the woman completes one programme prior to beginning the other.

We offer a combination of group and individual counselling for all women. We will help assess the best course of action with the woman herself at an initial interview, which is always free of charge.

If you have experienced domestic violence in any of its form, of if you are struggling with your anger, then our women’s programmes are for you!

Man wonderingOur Men’s Living Without Violence/Anger Management programmes seek to help men for whom anger, abuse or violence is an issue in their lives. This issue may be evident in a number of ways, including:

Your partner or children may be scared of you when you are in a bad mood
You may shout, swear or say things to your partner or children that you don’t mean
You may try to control your partner’s movements or who she sees
You may go for several hours without talking to your partner when you are angry
Your children are beginning to copy you when you are angry.

If any of these behaviours apply to you, or if you (or others) feel that you have an issue with anger, abuse or violence, then our Men’s Living Without Violence/Anger Management programme will be able to help you.

Children’s and Teenagers programmes

Child experiencing domestic violenceOur Children and Teenager’s programmes help children or teenagers who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence. Often children who are in this situation feel very isolated and alone. Children may blame themselves for this violence. Being part of a group with other children helps children realise they are not alone and that other children have had similar experiences. Our Children and Teenager’s Support and Education programmes help children to:

  • Recognise violent behaviour and how respond to this behaviour (to keep themselves safe)
  • Understand the effects of abuse and violence
  • Understand that they are not to blame for what adults have done
  • Deal with their own anger (if this is an issue for them)
  • Understand and name feelings
  • Take responsibility for their own actions

If a child or teenager has witnessed or experienced domestic violence then our Children’s and Teenager’s Support and Education programme will be able to help them.
